(2) The Flood of Noah
(2) The
Flood of Noah
The Flood
of Noah foreshadows the cross of Jesus Christ. Noah, his family of seven, and
the animals entered Noah's ark. The flood symbolizes sin, death, and judgment.
Isaiah 57:20 says, "But the wicked are like the troubled sea, which cannot
rest; its waters cast up mire and dirt." Psalm 32:6 says, "Therefore
let all the godly pray to you while you may be found. Surely, in the great
flood, they will not reach him." Micah 7:19 says, "You will again
have compassion on us; you will trample our iniquities underfoot and hurl all
our sins into the depths of the sea."
The flood is
a curse from God. However, an ark stands on the water. The ark is shaped like a
rectangular box. There are two other places in the Bible where the word
"ark" is used: Moses' wicker basket and the Ark of the Covenant from
the Old Testament. The ark was covered with pitch. The ark appears as a person
(Moses).
Genesis 6:14 "Make
yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark and cover it inside and
out with pitch."
If we look up the words related to bitumen, we see in Genesis 19:24, “Then the LORD rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from
the LORD out of the heavens.” In Revelation 20:10,
it says, “And the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown
into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet were.
They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” The words in Genesis are expressed as fire and sulfur.
An ark is a square, box-shaped vessel. In English, it's called
"Ark." Words that use this word include Moses' ark, Noah's ark, and
the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
God commanded that the ark be
made of gopher wood (cedar). In Hebrew, cedar is used in the words gopher,
erets, and kopher, and cedar was also used in the temple and the Ark of the
Covenant. "Make rooms in it and cover it inside and out with pitch."
Pitch is made by mixing cedar (gopher) tree resin with it.
The "gofirt
of cedar" symbolizes the blood of Jesus Christ. Pitch signifies ransom
money. In other words, the cedar symbolizes Jesus Christ. Pitch, as ransom
money, signifies the atoning death of Jesus Christ. The Hebrew word
"chill" means "to appease, to reconcile, to atone."
Genesis 19:24 reads,
"Then the Lord rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the
Lord out of the heavens." The Hebrew word translated as sulfur here is
"gofirt" (sour cedar). The sour cedar represents the blood Jesus Christ
shed through His atoning death. This blood and fire rained down from heaven.
Fire symbolizes the Holy Spirit. When God created heaven and earth (the
material world), he created them from water (the Word) and the Holy Spirit. 2
Peter 3:7 says, "But the heavens and the earth, which are now kept in
store by the same Word, are being kept on fire until the day of judgment and
destruction of ungodly men."
To set heaven and
earth on fire is identical to the Word of Creation. That is, Creation created
the material world with water (the Word) and the Holy Spirit. The material
world will be destroyed again by God's Word and the Holy Spirit.
In Revelation
20:10, it says, "And the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the
lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet were also.
They will be tormented day and night forever and ever." Here, the word
translated as "brimstone" is "gofirt" (cedar resin). Fire,
likewise, signifies the Holy Spirit. The pool is a place filled with water, and
the pool containing "gofirt" refers to the pool of Jesus Christ's
blood.
The material world was created
by God's Word and Spirit, and will be judged and destroyed by the Word and
Spirit. Here, like the sap of the cedar tree, is the blood of Jesus Christ.
Those who rely on the blood of Jesus Christ will not be judged.
This story becomes the story
of Genesis 1 and the story of Revelation. If we understand the story of God's
creation, the story of the end times will naturally follow.
